About Vancouver

History

Vancouver takes its name from Captain George Vancouver, an English Naval captain. Over time, Vancouver began to grow as a seaport for international trade. Today, Vancouver is Canada’s eighth largest city and one of Canada’ premier places to call home.

Geography and Climate

Vancouver is located in the province of British Columbia. It is a seaport that lies between the Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River. This unique location not only provides Vancouver its natural beauty, but it also makes Vancouver one of the warmest and wettest cities in Canada during the winter months.

Vancouver’s climate is often referred to as oceanic and is one of Canada’s warmest cities. It has 4 distinct seasons, but gets very little snow during the winter months. It ranks as Canada’s 9th wettest city during the winter months and usually sees a dry and hot summer.

Population

Vancouver is home to over 600 000 people and is one of the most multi-cultural and vibrant places in Canada. This cultural diversity and is one of the main reasons as to why Vancouver is such a great place to call home.

Popular Destinations

Although there are no shortages of places to see and things to do in Vancouver, there are definitely some must see destinations that are popular with residents and tourists alike. The most popular place to visit in Vancouver is Stanley Park. Stanley Park is a world renowned, national historic green space in Vancouver. It offers over 400 hectares of natural West Coast rainforest, complete with mountain and ocean views. Stanley Park provides access to some of Vancouver’s most spectacular beaches and is part of the famous Vancouver Seawall.

Another unique destination in Vancouver is Granville Island. Granville Island offers a great public market where you can indulge is some of the city’s finest artisan foods and specialty shops. Granville Island also offers boutique shopping experiences and houses many of the city’s arts and crafts guilds. It is a great place to spend a day and is a unique Vancouver experience.
