Public Elementary Schools
Yaletown itself offers one public elementary school – Elsie Roy. Elsie Roy is a Kindergarten – Grade 7 public school that is part of the Vancouver School Board. With over 400 students, Elsie Roy is one of the fastest growing schools in the district. It strives to provide all students with an inclusive learning environment that will foster and create knowledgeable, caring and responsible citizens who will help to create a peaceful and sustainable world. Community is a key focus of the school and it strives to incorporate the various community pieces in Yaletown such as the Roundhouse Community Centre into its overall learning goals and curriculum. Elsie Roy is also an International Baccalaureate school with the highest of standards and an international mindedness.
Although there is no French Immersion programs offered through the local Yaletown school Elsie Roy, Henry Hudson Elementary School just outside of Yaletown offers students this opportunity. Henry Hudson is committed to supporting and engaging learners while fostering a caring and inclusive school community.
School District # 39 – The Vancouver School Board
All of the public schools in Yaletown are part of the largest school district in the province – the Vancouver School Board. The Vancouver School Board provides education for more than 54 000 students and offers a myriad of programs and adult education experiences. The Vancouver School Board is an urban, multicultural place of learning that provides all students with the highest quality learning experiences, helping them to reach their intellectual, social and physical potential in a safe and inclusive school environment.
Public Secondary Schools
There are no secondary schools in the borders of Yaletown. However, there is one downtown high school (Grades 8-12) – King George Secondary. King George is dedicated to providing a safe and caring environment that promotes intellectual, cultural and physical and social development for all students.
Yaletown does not have any private or independent schools within its borders, but there are many different independent and private schools available in the downtown core and some even walking distance from Yaletown. Yaletown does not offer any post-secondary opportunities, but because Yaletown is a public transit hub residents can easily access all of the post-secondary choices in and around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. The University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU) as well as the local colleges and vocational schools are all quite accessible and are a short bus or sky train ride away.
Yaletown provides its residents with many different education choices in and around the downtown core and because of its transit choices no school whether it be public, private or post-secondary is beyond the reach of Yaletown.
